SEN School

Warm greetings to everyone. It is with great honor and privilege to join my academic and support staff as well as the general student body in welcoming you all to the School for Enrolled Nurses and Midwives Bansang, Central River Region The Gambia.

The School for Enrolled Nurses is a second level nurse training institution in the Gambia. It is located in the Central River Region, 315 kilometers from the capital city; Banjul, The school trains second level nurses and midwives who when graduated can work in the length and breadth of the country and the globe at large.

At 46 years of existent, the school trained 1335 general nurses and 504 enrolled midwives currently working at different health institutions. We have an amazing socialization with friends and colleagues especially when you are out of your home environment. At the school, students are prepared to overcome challenges nurses face in the 21st century.

Our students are specially trained to act drama and entertain the mass on current nursing matters. We also provide counseling to those students who have learning difficulties or emotional problems. As a burden school, we provide our students with variety of Gambian meals. Students prefer to jointly eat with others in the dining hall and such heightens socialization. We culturally observe traditional wedding in the school, this applies to any student who is married. The school organizes a traditional wedding programme where students would act as council of elders and advice the bride how to mutually live with the husband or co-wife.

I want to congratulate the Ministry of health and all the organization that sponsors students for the good work they have done. The program is certainly packed with interesting material. Like symposium at the end of each module, social nights and football and other sporting games of interest.

I hope I’ll have a chance to get to know many of you anytime soon and the school has a lot of knowledge to share in nursing. I’m talking about standard of nursing education, as well as best practices in providing care to indigents.

One of the many good things that’s happening in our school lately, is that our lecturers have come together to develop a shared vision for our school. What we’re doing is not only cut from good material; it’s also welded together by a coherent plan for where we want School for Enrolled Nurses to go.

I hope I’ll be able to pursue that theme when I talk with you again in future. Enjoy this terrific program. Thank you very much.
