ACADEMICS ACTIVITIES
Introduction
The School for Enrolled Nurses and Midwives is an academic institution that is mandated to trained second level nurses and midwives in The Gambia. The school offers classroom base teaching and clinical placement as well as community field work.

Entry requirement

Tuition and other fees
The School of Enrolled Nurses and Midwives operates as a public institution under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Health. The majority of its students receive government sponsorship. However, the school also admits private students, and the program fees are outlined as follows:
- For the enrolled nursing program, Private students pay a tuition fee of thirty
thousand dalasis (GMD 30,000.00) for the 2 years period - For the Post-Basic Midwifery Training, private students pay a tuition fee of
twenty thousand dalasis (GMD D20,000.00) for a 1-year period. - There is additional payment of twenty thousand dalasis (GMD20,000) as cost of
feeding for private students who wish to stay on campus provided there is extra
accommodation. - Graduation and credential fees are two thousand dalasis (GMD 2,000)
NOTE: All the above fees are subjected to changes, therefore any such changes in the future
should be expected.
Modules/ courses offered by the school
The school operates under a modular system and uses a standard curricular which covers the requirements of the students in their field of study.
For the enrolled nursing program, the curriculum is divided into 8 modules and they are as follows.

Assessments
The School for Enrolled Nurses and Midwives is an academic institution and she evaluates the students in both theoretical and practical assessment.
- Theoretical assessment
- Students sit to three tests in every module with the exception of module one, seven and eight where they sat to only one test
- At the end of every module, students sit to an end of module exams
- Final theoretical assessment is also done at the end of the program
- Practical assessment
- Practical assessment is done to evaluate the practical skills of the students
- These assessments are done in two forms; 1. Clinical assessments which are done in the Hospitals (Bansang Hospital) and 2. Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) which is usually held at the school.
- The clinical assessment practical exams are usually done at the end of module 3 and 4 while the OSCE is done at the end of module 5&6, and the final practical examination.
Promotion
Promotion to a new module is only possible if a student fulfils the following
- Secure pass mark of 50% in all tests and also pass both written and practical aspect of the end of modular exams separately. Continuous assessment CA carries 60% while Exams carry 40%
- In addition to the above, every student must attain at least 85% attendance in each module to be promoted to next module.
Other Academic activities of the school
The school engages in academic activities other than the theory and practical sessions in the curriculum. Some of these activities are;
- End of module quiz and debate: at the end of every module, students engage in either debate or quiz competitions amongst themselves. This serves as a good learning activity for the students and also the staff as well
- During module seven of the enrolled nursing program, students embark on a community diagnose. This is done in a research form and the results are later presented to the school for academic purpose.
